You get what you paid for. You can clearly hear what's going on next door, day and night. Parking cost you ¥1200/ night. Surprisingly, unlike most of the hotels in Japan, there are no air purifier in the room. Also, the AC in the room is centralized and unable to change temperature, despite there is a remote sitting in the room. You will have to open the window if it's too warm.

arguably the shabbiest business hotel i've stayed at in japan. rather fitting as niigata is the shabbiest town in japan.

The Dormy Inn in Niigata was a little further from the station than I would normally like but still a reasonable walk. It is right next to some anime shops if that is interesting to you. Surrounding it are lots of shops, bars and restaurants making it a good focal point for your visit to Niigata. The staff were great, the customer service exceptional. The building itself was a strange one, the rooms are all accessible from a central area with an open roof rather than being indoors, so more reminiscent of an apartment in a block than a hotel. The room was clean and comfortable, I had enough space and enough facilities to keep me happy. The hot springs are split by sex and on different floors, I cannot comment on the 2F women's, my understanding is that they are much less impressive, but the top floor men's baths was excellent. They had a large indoor bath as well as a smaller outdoor one in the open air. Outside also had two personal tubs for soaking and a steam room indoors. I love staying at the Dormy Inn chain, they are always a fantastic choice for where to stay and I had a great time and the price was perfect for what I received. I give it a full throated endorsement to anyone going to Niigata (in an all male group).

The hotel is merely 10mins from Niigata station. Everything was quite good for Dormy Inn standard. The room is quite different from the Dormy Inn Hotel I used to stay but its still nice. Onsen at 2nd floor for Female and 10th floor for Male The free coffee service, free Supper Half Ramen, free ice popsicle/probiotic drinks and the onsen were good. Amenities such as toothbrush, shaver, comb and cotton buds are at the lobby. The staff were quite polite. I was here during the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake and the building were shaking. The staff did well for checking in and provide water and shelter for others. The only thing I think the hotel should improve on is to have at least a recorded warning announcement in English or even just a notice in room if there are guest who stay there in the event of emergency. We were kinda left clueless on what to do during the earthquake and tsunami alert warning on TV.

I would love to give this hotel 4 stars, but.. well just hang on and listen. We, two guys, stayed at the hotel for 5 days in a tatami room. The bathroom is nice enough for a unit bath. The public bath among other various amenities are amazing. The washing machines are even free. But the room.. oh it is so small. We got a "small double bed" and the staff, without asking, put in a futon as a separate bed. Nice and thoughtful, I know. Here's the thing though. After putting down the futon, literally the entire floor is bedding. There is nothing else. That was a bit disappointing. Locationwise there's many stores, even animate and MelonBooks right outside the door.
