かごっま温泉

Showa era vibes onsen with friendly regulars. I was looking for a tattoo-friendly onsen to rest my very tired body and found this one. They have shampoo, conditioner, soap (you can look around, or one of the ladies inside might see your lost expression and point it out to you), a saltwater hot bath (!! first time I've seen this), hair dryers, sauna (I didn't have time to try this), and some other wellness equipment. They sell milk near the register and you can rent a towel for a small fee. Great experience, especially if you're dead tired!

This was conveniently located a short walk away from the Sakurajima ferry. After biking three hours I needed somewhere to shower and soak- this exceeded my expectations. Attendant was very nice and helpful and the water within the bath itself was awesome.

Super retro, no frills. Baths are good temperature, and the sauna and cold dip is really nice. Bring your own towel and a 100 yen coin (if you want to use a coin locker)! Otherwise you can just pop your stuff into a basket. The women's side was very quiet on a Friday around 8pm.

This is the perfect onsen experience in Kagoshima. The attendant is very friendly and speaks some English. I have a tattoo on my inside arm and I showed him and he smiled, no problem. They have 4 different baths. Cool, warm, salt and the main hot bath that bubbles up from deep underground. Also a spacious sauna. They have soap for the shower. Bring a bath towel and a hand towel (from your hotel). Only bring the hand towel in the onsen itself but don’t submerge it.

Aside of being in love with the onsen culture here in Japan. This spot is retro to its core. I love this place :) Clean onsen still got its original oldies style, with old Japanese music, I was in town 3 days, and went twice because of the atmosphere.. They’ve sauna, cold plunge, electric, and salt scrub / pool on top of a normal spring pool…. A true gem 💎
