First, breakfast was late, so I was on time and waiting patiently in the lounge, and I was the first guest allowed in the restaurant. I was asked to change my seat (by moving only one seat over) by one server after the other one had told me explicitly where to sit, (this in itself was enough to cause me some disturbance, it hurts me to stand up and sit down, and it's also quite embarrassing, and they will recall i laughed loudly with nervous energy) After the room filled a bit, i was told i was talking too loud (because they seat people by room with apparently no option for changing seats and two men from India were happy to talk to me and were sitting further away). Then, when i asked to take my breakfast elsewhere, for my own comfort given the entire situation, i was flatly refused (by the man at the front desk) a better option would have been, instead of mentioning to me that I'm being too loud, ask the three foreigners trying to become better acquainted if we would prefer to all sit together. We each had double/single rooms (meaning: we had space for two set up at breakfast, but were each only taking up one available space) in a long line about 15 to 20 feet (5-6 meters) in total apart from each other. We were discussing the earthquake that happened this morning. If the servers had been empowered to be flexible and had offered us the opportunity to sit together, we would have all had an enjoyable breakfast, and we would have also accepted and understood the more subtle hint about being too loud. I generally never want to cause offense, but when it does understandably happen while existing with a different culture, a softer approach would have been greatly appreciated. It might have put us a little bit on the spot to decide in that moment if we all want to sit together (the space was available, it was already our space, but they are so specific about exactly where you sit) but since we/ I were/was already causing offense by being so loud, (we were discussing the nearby 4.8 magnitude earthquake this morning) we would have certainly gotten the hint to be more quiet without being explicitly told. I hope you will take these comments in the spirit of positive cultural exchange. This will hopefully help manage expectations of acceptable breakfast behavior in the future.

🍣 FOOD = 10/10 Not gonna lie, the food was _insanely_ good. Everything looked straight out of a food magazine—beautiful plating, tons of variety, and flavors that actually hit. From fresh sashimi to risotto, shabu shabu, sirloin, noodles, and even dessert—it was all-inclusive and super affordable. 🧖‍♀️ Private Sauna = 80/100 Booked the private sauna for 4000 yen and it was mostly a vibe. The room itself smelled amazing thanks to the calming aroma, and the interior was sleek and new—perfect for anyone needing a chill reset. the only downside was that the changing room had a mild sewage-y smell that kinda threw off the zen. 🛏️ The Room Simple setup, but honestly I liked it. Clean and minimal. The shared bathroom wasn’t ideal, but considering how cheap the stay was, I didn’t mind. 📲 Service & Staff Everything’s super digital—self check-in, ordering drinks, even booking the sauna. I get that it’s probably to avoid miscommunication, and it mostly works. But I kinda missed that human touch. Like, sometimes you just wanna ask a staff member for a drink instead of scanning a QR code, ya know? A little more flexibility would make the experience feel more personal. That said, the staff were really helpful, and translation tools were a lifesaver for smooth communication. Definitely would return!

the room is very nice and spacious, although no own bathroom but you can use the public or pay for extra sauna and then have a private bathroom. The food is excellent, I tried over 20 traditional Japanese dinner, it should be the top three in my mind, taste is really good. Although the check in take a little bit some time but still very smooth. Your every penny spent in this hotel is worth and even, from my point of vote view, exceed my expectation. Really really recommended

This Onsen hotel offers excellent customer service, with attentive staff ensuring a memorable stay. The food is outstanding, providing a delightful culinary experience. However, the slightly high price may seem disproportionate considering the aging infrastructure of the building.

Food is great here, it is not too small at all. There's free late night noodles too. However, I must say this is the most underwhelming Ryokan I've stayed in. The check in process is odd, where we are to self check in using a tablet, print out a room number and ticket with a QR code. This piece of paper is of some security concerns. It clearly displays the guest room number and the key code - if a guest carries it out and lost it, anyone can get into their room. It is a small onsen town in Japan so safety likely not an issue, but it is just an unnecessary risk. (And the small safe inside the room is not bolted down or hidden in anyway, anyone can take the entire safe and run!) The biggest issue with the Ryokan however, is the public bath. It is super SUPER small. I meant the change room and the actual bath. The bath is dark, and completely indoors - the hotel had reserved the outdoor bath to private bath renting guests. So after paying the expensive price that is the half board, you will need to pay another ¥3000 to use the private bath for 70minutes! And the indoor public bath windows (in the female bath side) is frosted, so no view of any greenery. (I understand the men's bath side is not frosted) The bath is like a heated wading pool. Looks like a pool, smells like a pool. Another issue is with the lift signage - it is small, looks like an unisex toilet sign, and the lift door is similar in size and colour to a guest room /toilet door. In the guest room, getting into the room you are almost forced to step into the timber flooring before you can close the door and step off the floor to use the bench seat and take off your shoes. Not to mention how dark it is inside the room. The hotel guest room toilet is also the ONLY toilet I've seen that left the spare toilet roll out in plain sight. Also the issue with meal time booking. We check in around 4pm, was told to select dinner time on the app. The only option offered was 5:50pm. We waited until 5:30, it finally offered the next option at 7:00. After the excellent dinner we were heading out the door to go for a walk, only to be flag down by staff to ask us to book in our breakfast time slot next morning - the only offering was 6:50 am. I had to ask for a later time slot, and finally securing breakfast at 8:20. Believe me that was a hard commitment that we almost couldn't make, I had to set alarm clock first time during my holiday. The hotel felt as if they've ran out of money making changes since their takeover from previous 秋保の郷 ばんじ家 - they've only taken over in April 2023 yet it feels so run down by October 2023. I do not recommend this Ryokan, and will not return.
