5件Very good service despite the busy atmosphere and amount of luggage they're managing (guys enough with the rolling luggage go to the gym or bring less crap). This hotel constantly surprised me with the little amenities offered. Free coffee from morning to late noon, free snacks offered in the lobby in the morning, free midnight ramen (felt like a soup kitchen, but in a good way), delicious jelly in room with coffee and tea, FREE laundry washing (100 yen for 30 min drying, but completely dry for wife and I at 2 hours for 400 yen) with no need for detergent, FREE Manga you can bring to your room and free after sauna/onsen ice cream you can select. Great location in the busy market street, yet nice and quiet inside the hotel despite that fact. Room had a little balcony you can step out to. Also, out of the 3 hotels we stayed in Hokkaido for our trip, this one had the best room temperature. Chill with the ability to warm it up if needed. However, some shower head settings were a bit wonky, but I won't deduct points for it. One of the most interesting and best value hotels I stayed at with a cool lodgey style.
Excellent little hotel. I loved it. The Onsen was a highlight and the location is great. So many lovely ammenities like popsicles, coffee and night ramen. Unfortunately the toilet had a smell when we arrived (which eventually cleared) and the pillows were some of the worst I have had in any hotel in my life, like some kind of medieval torture…if you plan to stay here, you will love it, but if pillows are important, bring your own.
I've stayed at 3 Dormy Inns over the past 2 years. This one is probably my favorite. The location is extremely good. There is an entrance from Tanukikoji so you can walk in and out with shelter from the snow. It is a short walk away from Odori Park and Susukino. It's a great place to stay if you're visiting for the snow festival. It's also a short walk away from Nijo market. A bus to the New Chitose Airport stops just a short walk away. The breakfast selection is great. They serve kaisendon, curry, and Jingisukan (Genghis Khan). I reserved breakfast for my stay because I was afraid of getting snowed in. Something to consider. The hot springs and sauna are great. It would be nice if the outdoor bath was a little bit bigger, but I honestly can't complain. The indoor one was plenty big enough. They have stairs for public use! The other two Dormy Inns that I've stayed at only have stairs for emergency use. The room that I stayed in was warm and spacious with black-out curtains. No moldy smell, the AC/heating worked, and there was space to open up my suitcase and get myself ready for the day. The staff were excellent. No complaints here. 10/10 would stay here again. Tip: if you reserve breakfast, familiarize yourself with Japanese numbers. If you end up waiting in line for breakfast, they'll be calling out customers by number. They staff knows some English, but it helps to know Japanese. The hotel has a currency exchange machine. I do not recommend using this machine. There is a currency exchanger down the block in Tanukikoji with much better exchange rates. If for some reason that one is closed, there is a bank in Aurora town that exchanges currency at great rates as well. Pro-travel tip: if you land at New Chitose Airport and trains and buses are cancelled due to snow, take a taxi to Oyachi station, then take the subway to Odori, and then walk to the hotel. You can take the surface streets OR walk through the underground Pole Town and emerge from Don Quixote on Tanukikoji and walk to the hotel under cover from there. I do not recommend taking any taxi through downtown Sapporo to get to this hotel in the winter. I've seen several cars get stuck in the snow, and traffic slows to a crawl with all the pedestrians in the city.
The breakfast here is top tier, there is so much seafood especially the seafood bowl station is fantastic. It has most of the famous Sapporo food such as curry soup, Genghis Khan, and seafood dishes. The rooms are typical and show signs of use, it could use an update soon. The staff is always friendly and quick to help out. You cannot beat the location, it's right in the heart of the shopping arcade and walking distance to the snow festival Park. Also, it has Hot Springs baths which is great to relax and warm up after a long day of sightseeing. They also have free late night ramen for the guests. This hotel has a lot of great free stuff for the price.
Great little hotel for the price. Rooms are basic but clean and cost. The public bath (大浴場) was one of the best hotel ones I’ve been to with an insanely hot sauna and insanely cold cold plunge. Plus sitting in a tub outdoors while it snows is just amazing. Amazing hotel for the price. Dormy Inn is truly incredible value for the money. Would stay here again easily. Psychotically uncomfortable pillows, however.
