5件Grand Sauna Shinsaibashi was my first capsule hotel experience and it set the bar high. Just a short walk from Dotonbori, the location is spot-on. The capsules were clean and surprisingly comfortable — I’m a big guy and I slept better than I expected! The facilities are seriously impressive: multiple saunas, an onsen, a huge indoor hot tub, an outdoor hot tub, and an ice-cold plunge. There are also two big lounge areas filled with bean bags and comfy chairs, with people chilling on their phones, reading, gaming, sipping beers, and slurping noodles. It had this relaxed, almost slumber-party atmosphere — in a very Japanese way. Staff were lovely and helpful, though they speak very little English. Hardly any foreigners staying, which made it feel like a genuine local experience. Pro tip: the lockers are pretty small. Leave your suitcase with the staff — very secure (it’s Japan) — and just take what you need for the night upstairs. Amazing value for the location and experience. Would definitely stay again.
I stayed one night at this hotel (most of them are local Japanese people) Although it’s an old property, it was quite clean, and the staff were, as always, very polite and welcoming. The sauna was amazing truly a traditional Japanese style with a spacious layout, making it a very authentic experience. I did notice a female staff member in the massage room, which I wasn’t sure is typical for traditional Japanese onsens. Overall, this is one of the best onsen experiences I’ve had so far.
This is by far the best capsule hotel I have stayed in. First the location is amazing it’s in Dotonbori which is the night life area of Osaka so you have a lot to do around the hotel. Secondly the hotel is relatively clean and good capsules. The part that I loved the most was the facilities in the hotel - there is a built in onsen in the hotel which has like 3 different saunas, a giant indoor hot-tub, an outdoor hot-tub, and a cold water tub, and it’s open 24 hours so you can go whenever you want and also you have unlimited towels. There are also two big lounges with many bean bags and comfortable chairs. Keep in mind that if you stay in the hotel after 10 am you have to pay for every hour so that’s a bit annoying but most people go out in the morning anyway. I really recommend the place it’s also relatively cheap.
My last night stay in Japan @ this modest but very crowded cubic and grand spa hotel! I think there is lots of improvement here...1st we were all paled up at the floor/ground waiting to check in 2 dozen of people and @ 3 pm exactly! That was a real turn off...There some 6/8 old saufa seats for this crowds! Also most of hotels I been to, they are kindly letting us checking sometimes so early between 2-3 PM to avoid this big line up chaos ....there is definitely no reason we can not accommodate this way here as well...the worst here is that the cleaning teams will carry on the work half way through from 3 pm to 5 pm or even more, this was a real pain and unusual at hotels...when people check in everything should be ready even in common areas and places...I hear you ll have to check out/check in everyday at this place which is little bit awkward and ridiculous ...thats why there is lots of crowds at the front desk during these times...front desk seem so blocked with all kind of notice posters, barriers and stuff...you can not see if there is anybody there or ....remove, clean and clear the front desk...give air and space to clients and all...very strict place and might have challenges to get anything sorted out here although some nice and kind members.... There is lots of regulars at this place...quiet and decent also to pick private cabin for little extra...many tv common rooms/areas/launges...VIP section, restaurant, and f course the best is the spa...it is old but the steam room is so amazing and all the spa is the big bonus of this place... Location is excellent middle of Dotonbori best area in Osaka...lots of fun. I think if we can address some of the improvements, this place could turn out to be so better...but I still recommend it, and will go back there again for sure.
Edit: Stayed again 4 years later, only affordable place on the weekend now that tourism has outpriced us locals. Overall good as last time, except that the women's section was uncomfortably hot. I was sweating in a tank top and it didn't help sleeping. Was also surprised by the absence of body lotion among the amenities/ Stayed here for one night for an event in Osaka. Great place for the price. I booked their "luxury" capsules, which means you basically have a little room for yourself, it was great. Good location near subway station, easy to find, the common showers (ladies only floor, I've seen four) were clean, the hotel had all the toiletries you could need and pajama+towels. When I went it was fairly empty, so it wasn't particularly noisy even if the walls are thin. You have to leave your shoes at the door and you cannot eat in your capsule but there is a common room on the first floor that you can lock (they even have manga to read). If you don't see the option for women's rooms when booking, wait a bit as they seem to add those only a couple of months in advance.
