This spa is not very tourist-friendly, and I find that quite disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend it to travelers who are not familiar with the local culture. In addition, I experienced a discriminatory remark from one of the local customers. Perhaps he thought my Japanese wasn’t fluent — unfortunately, it was an unpleasant experience:(

It's a nice hotel, comfortable bed, free ice cream all the time, but the breakfast was too little for me

If you’re looking to relax and unwind in the Kyoto area, Suisyun Matsuiyamate is a fantastic modern Japanese onsen (hot spring) experience. The facility is spacious, clean, and offers a wide variety of baths — including indoor and outdoor rotenburo, jet baths, carbonated baths, and even a silky bath. I especially enjoyed the open-air hot springs, which were peaceful and beautifully designed with natural rock and greenery. They also have a sauna and cold plunge, perfect for a refreshing contrast. The entrance process is easy, and lockers are provided. Amenities like shampoo, conditioner, and body soap are available in the shower area. There’s also a dining area with Japanese food, a relaxation lounge, and massage services if you want to spend a few hours. Even if you don’t speak Japanese, the signage and process are fairly straightforward. It’s a great place to enjoy a true Japanese bathing culture without having to go deep into the countryside. Highly recommended for travelers or locals looking for a clean, modern, and relaxing onsen experience.

I'm giving a 2-star rating due to a very disrespectful experience regarding their service handling. Firstly, I strongly advise foreigners with tattoos not to come to their sento and sauna. The information regarding their tattoo policy is only available in Japanese and is buried at the bottom of their website. This makes it easily overlooked by non-Japanese speakers. More importantly, even after paying the fee, guests with tattoos may be denied access to the facilities with no guarantee of a refund. While the view is pleasant and helpful, however, my interaction with other staff members, particularly those older women's working at reception and cleaning the onsen, was deeply unpleasant. They openly scrutinized me and making me feel like I was a problem they had to "deal with" simply because I have tattoos. Despite having paid over 4000 yen, I was simply kicked out. The staff dismissed me with "The rule is like that. Please take your belongings and go." There was no attempt at a polite apology. The immediate shift in their demeanor to a more cheerful and polite tone as I was leaving only reinforced the feeling that they were simply glad to be rid of me. This was incredibly disrespectful and made me feel like I was being treated as an unwelcome outsider. It gave me the impression that the management doesn't value customer service and tolerates rude behavior from its staff. The two stars are solely for the nice view and the friendly restaurant staff. I believe that how a business handles issues and treats its customers, especially during difficult situations, is paramount. This place failed miserably in that regard. Even if I didn't have tattoos, I would not return, as I believe anyone could encounter an issue at some point, and the way this place handled mine makes it clear they don't prioritize customer satisfaction.

The hotel itself is very nice. Well decorated, good breakfast, outstanding service with a reasonable price at the same time. The only thing I really didn't like is the tiny rooms. There's not even enough space to open your suitcase but on the bed which I personally don't like to have the dirt from airport conveyor belts and street dirt on the suitcase wheels on the spot I'm sleeping in. Foreigners be aware: before entering the hotel you have to take your shoes off and store them in a locker. The sign which shows you to take off your shoes is in Japanese only.
