Hotel is good from far.. but honestly, far from good. The hallway had this musty smell, and the toilet was super humid.. the room window was constantly wet but couldn’t be opened to ventilate. In the daytime the room gets so much sun it basically turns into a mini greenhouse. They also decided to put a smoking room right at the lobby on the 13th floor check-in, so you get greeted by that smell the moment you walk down the alleyway. Lovely touch. The front door setup is also wild 😂 I’ve walked into that glass more times than I’d like to admit. And breakfast at 7 a.m.? Absolute chaos. If you go then, may the odds be ever in your favor.

Pros: • Great location with plenty of food options. That’s… pretty much it. Cons: The hotel looks sleek and modern from the outside, but once you step in, the illusion collapses fast. For reasons unknown to mankind, the smoking room is placed right at the lobby level, so the entire corridor greets you with a full blast of cigarette perfume. The room itself was a humid box. After one night it felt like we were marinating. The bathroom ventilation didn’t work, the room never felt clean, and because the window couldn’t be opened, we had absolutely no way to air it out. I’m convinced staying more than two nights would turn you into a damp piece of laundry. Breakfast was chaos. We went down at 7:15am (which is basically dawn), yet still queued 15 minutes for a seat. The selection was not worth the wait. Bonus confusion: the entrance door. The panel that opens is the wooden one, not the glass one—because why not confuse guests further? In short: great location, but the stay itself? Humid, smoky, crowded, and confusing. Would not return.

Location is good, the short interaction with staff on check-in was also good, and the skyspa is decent. But the rooms are more like prison cells than a hotel room. Bed is literally a rock, bathroom smells like mold and you can't open the window in the room, which feels illegal, zero air circulation. Gets the job done for a short stay in Matsuyama, but if you can, avoid it, you'll probably get sick.

One of the most expensive rooms we’ve been in on our 7 week trip. Not sure how they can charge so much. You don’t get a lot for your money. Somewhat larger room but nothing special. Breakfast buffet was totally overwhelmed, a hundred people were waiting in line. No excuse for that , other hotels had systems for managing the number of guests using their buffet. You have to ask them to coffee at the desk and they will only give you one per person. I guess you have to ask again tomorrow if you want coffee for your second day

This was my third trip to Japan, and I can say without a doubt that Candeo Hotels Matsuyama Okaido is the best hotel I have ever stayed at in this country. From the moment I walked in, I was blown away. The staff were incredibly welcoming and kind, and I was so relieved that they spoke excellent English, which made check-in and asking for recommendations a breeze. Every interaction was a pleasure. The real highlights for me were the amenities. The spa is absolutely amazing – so relaxing and luxurious, it was the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring Matsuyama. Waking up to the beautiful views from my room was incredible, and the breakfast spread was equally amazing. There was such a wide variety of delicious options, and it was the best start to my day. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. It truly made my trip special, and I will absolutely be staying here again on my next visit to Japan.
