Reviews
5件After reading the bad reviews, wasn’t sure if I wanted to try the gym but I gave it a go (rather, 3 “go’s” as I came here 3 times). I was staying at the Nikki Hotel just next door and you can buy day passes there for 2200 yen each, and all the staff I met at the gym accepted those without any issues (I was afraid they weren’t aware of that possible or something like that, after reading some comments). I don’t have any tattoos, so that doesn’t pose any issue, but they don’t allow people with tattoos (it’s cultural), but it’s written on the form the hotel gives you. The gym had everything I wanted for my workouts. Maybe not the latest equipment, ok, but more than suitable and enough. Everyone cleans the machines, weights, mats, etc, so a big plus for cleanliness. A few things to know if you’re staying for a few days as a tourist: you need to take the lift just to the right of the hotel entrance connected to the building or the gym, and you have to go to the 5th floor. They told me the pass I had gave me the right to a towel, but since the paper from the hotel said we could rent towels, I just brought one (clean) from my room, as I thought I needed to pay for one and I had plenty in my bathroom. In the changing rooms, take off your shoes right after you enter. There’s a step and I didn’t think of it, and a gentleman was very annoyed with me because I had my shoes on (I was going to change them and put my clean running shoes once I found a locker). So, take them off right away and just grab them. The lockers that have a key hanging are free. You can put the key around your wrist or around your water bottle (I brought one from my room as well). I didn’t shower there as I had a wonderful bathroom with a bathtub at the hotel 😁 But people just walk naked there and I believe it’s best to bring a towel and toiletries, don’t know if they provide those. When you get out of the changing rooms, there are some stairs that take you right to the workout room (to avoid taking the same steps you took by the entrance with your dirty shoes). There are also studios and classes every day (I took a picture of the schedule), but I haven’t tried any since I wanted to do some free weights and to run instead. But the classes I happened to watch were quite busy/full, and they seemed fun! The staff was very friendly, I didn’t feel at all awkward being the only clearly foreigner training at the gym when I went there. For me, the price was worth going to the gym and keeping fit. I didn’t try the pool.
Denied the entrance because "they do not do day passes", while people in the reviews say they do. Then they complain about my tattoos, even if I say i will cover them up with long sleeve clothing. Probably denied the entrance just because I am a foreigner, sad. For being a first world country, the gyms here are worse than third world country ones. Discriminatory politics that go beyond human rights.
What a disgrace. Allowed in to swim laps one day, denied entry the next. Reason being my modest tattoo. Staying in the hotel next door, no gym facilities there. For such a technologically advanced first world country I find some of their discriminatory old fashioned ways quite hilarious, and equally annoying. Must be plenty of angry westerners needing a workout getting around hotel Nikko kanzanawa. Spend your money elsewhere.
Empty gym and they did not allowed us since you have to book one day in advance. Absolutely zero flexibility
Enjoyed it, the state of the equipment was a bit regrettable in some case. But I can't really complain for the price I paid for a single visit. The shower and the bath was nice after a training session.
