5件Good location, big issue is there was bed bug in my bed, and staff didn’t really seem to care they offered a refund but i want people to know this is an issue at the hostel. I always paid for towels when I realised I didn’t need them they said they would refund me. The refund never went through I spoke to staff and they said it would take a few working days it’s been two weeks and no refund. I understand it’s cheaper Accomodation but bed bugs is a real issue
Was nervous to stay in a hostel again as a 36 yo solo woman. Only the mixed dorm was available. Shower room and bathroom was pretty clean. Well organized, people were respectful and kept quiet in the rooms and things were tidy. You keep your suitcases in a row behind your bed. There is a small lock box in the bunk which did fit my laptop at an angle. There looks like there are some larger lockers in the hallway. Otherwise everything is left out. Bit of a walk to metros, just 10 or 20 to main. Bunk was spacious enough, I could put daily things and hang up some things. Great stay in Tokyo for the price!
Overall a great experience. Comfy beds with privacy curtains, clean bathrooms and facilities, bar and breakfast restaurant on site. Place is very welcoming. There’s no lockers in the room but there’s space behind the bunks to store your belongings plus a lookout window from the bunk to monitor your items. Very smart design. I have one critique. There is a very small patio at the end of the hall with nothing there but a small terrace. There’s a “no smoking” sign with a 50,000 yen penalty. Personally I get it, but it seems like a more suitable spot to let people smoke than to have all your smokers gathering in front of the entrance.
I stayed in a few places on my trip, and this was absolutely my favorite hostel. It felt clean and safe, and I really liked the bed space. I was able to put my packing cubes and stuff in there and felt like I had plenty of room, in a cozy way. Shower always had hot water, breakfast was actually very convenient and nice, and the vibes overall were just great. Location was perfect too, the area was nice and just a short walk to so many cool bars. And, I wanted to be near a big station (Shinjuku), but also a smaller one so I didn’t have to traverse Shinjuku every time, and that was perfect. I stayed a week in the female dorm, and I’d do that again in a heartbeat.
I stayed at Unplan Shinjuku Hostel for 6 nights, and overall, the experience was alright mainly because the place is extremely clean. The dorms, pods, and toilets are all very well maintained—cleanliness is definitely the strongest part of this hostel. However, I faced several issues during my stay: • The toilets are extremely cold. There are no heaters, and the windows are always open for ventilation, which makes the bathroom area very uncomfortable, especially in colder weather. The whole hostel feels quite cold, but the toilets are the coldest. Installing heaters would really improve the stay. • Towel policy: For my entire 6-night stay, I was only given one towel. When I asked for another one, I was told I would need to buy it. For longer stays, at least one additional towel should be provided. • Breakfast: The breakfast was exactly the same every day. It would be better if they could change it a little—keep the basics like eggs the same, but add something different so guests don’t eat the same food for 6 days straight. • Shower rooms: I think the shower rooms should be separated for men and women. The current setup can be uncomfortable for some guests. Personally, I don’t mind, but others might feel uneasy if men and women are showering in the same area. Separate shower rooms would make the experience more comfortable for everyone. Apart from these issues, the hostel is very clean and well maintained. If they improve the heating situation, adjust the towel policy, add some variety to breakfast, and consider separate shower areas, the stay would be much more comfortable.
