5件I didn’t know that it was only one free drink which is fine but I don’t like how the female staff scolded when I was trying to get a drink from the machine. Can be more polite than saying things with irritation!! Just ruined my visit!!
I only read the reviews after checking in and nearly left - glad I didn't, it was great. Speedy check in, the capsule was comfy and even had a TV inside. With earplugs I couldn't hear a thing and slept for 9 hours. The reception staff were friendly. The lounge area on 2F was great with free curry. The showers were great with lots of different shower products to chose from. I was able to store my luggage also. I did not encounter any bed bugs, so this issue may have been resolved.
Amazing value and location for budget travelers if your expectations are right. Perfect if you need a place to crash but earplugs or headphones are a requirement. Short walk from Ueno Station. Loft room is good if you need to work in a chair but otherwise a regular flat room is generously wide to sleep in. Two separate buildings but both are part of the same location. There’s a different location up the street as well. Left building has showers on 2F and the onsen, lounge and food are in the right building. There’s a 7-11 attached in the back. One free drink with your stay. There are longer term lockers across the street.
Pros: Private rooms better than capsule, can put luggage inside room. Clean, new, great service, great attitude as long as you don't break rules. Good price 4950 yen for 24 hours. Includes comic books, Japanese sauna, all u can eat curry and rice, free drink, PC in room. The largest room is called loft and has both TV and computer, twice the size of regular rooms. Con: PC often doesn't work, contacted staff 3+ times and it continuously gave error in Japanese, I gave up using the room PC and used my mobile phone instead. Rooms close to elevator is loud with constant elevator sound, hand dryer sound is very loud that the whole floor will hear it. Earplugs are sold at lobby. Loft room is twice the size of regular rooms, separated into two floors, downstairs has desk and computer, upstairs has a bed. Gran Customa has a very small amount of loft rooms, and they won't let you continuously book it for more than 1 night, they will tell you to book a smaller room afterwards. The Loft room is used as an attraction rather than be used regularly, staff said they wanted various customers to use the room so people have to get rotated out. Loft room isn't very good anyway, climbing up to bed is dangerous, room light is downstairs so use your phone light to see in the dark when climbing up.
I was looking for a place to shower, eat , and relax after a morning run, and I originally walked into Customa Cafe Ueno. But the front desk staff there suggested that I try Grancustoma Ueno on the same block and gave me a discount coupon, so I ended up in here. This place has a small public spa (温泉) that includes jacuzzi and sauna, as well as separate simple private shower rooms. There is also an all-you-can-eat curry bar with a few free basic drink items (water, barley tea, green tea, I can't remember if there was black tea or coffee). I rented a private room, but their (small) open lounge had fully reclining relaxation chairs, and they looked very comfortable as I saw quite a few people sleeping there. It is true that the private room I rented had a slight smell of cigarette, but perhaps it was my fault that I did not specifically ask for a non-smoking room (there was an ash tray on the desk) or perhaps their fault for not asking me what I preferred. Nevertheless, the smell did not bother me (even though I do hate cigarette smells), and I had no problem taking my morning nap in their "flat" room. Overall, I thought the amenities and services were quite impressive for an internet cafe, and with the 200 yen discount I paid something like only 1300 yen for 3 hours. I think they deserve a five-star rating, and they are getting it from me.
