Best onsen in Japan I've been to. Winter time Nagano is best appreciated from a steaming onsen imo. I could loose weeks in the lounge reading manga (fyi no English versions of course).

I go here every weekend to relax, it's that good....never tried it during the winter seasons though

Of all the hot spring / onsen I’ve visited in different countries, this is by far my favourite. This place is the whole package - outdoor hot spring in beautifully landscaped Japanese garden, indoor therapeutic pools and steam rooms. And it doesn’t stop here, they have a relaxing sitting area furnished with a library, lounges for reading, and massage chairs! 750 JPY for 90 minutes of heaven, it’s an incredible value for money. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!,

Relaxing facility in the middle of the farmlands of Matsushiro. Not accessible by public transport so it is best to come by car. Very wide outdoor bath and pastel stools to sit on in the shower area. Only mist sauna was available but it was hot enough to extract sweat. The food was good but a little expensive. They have a vast selection of books and magazines for Japanese literate bookworms to devour. Many nooks to sleep in within the building. Lots of beanbags and 6 hammocks to lounge in on their upper terrace. It is very suitable for families to stay in. Additional fee applies if you stay longer than 6 hours.

Spending a day in this renewed onsen facility is a nice way to relax and destress. Needless to say, the natural onsen was great especially outside one. And they have relaxing area to read books and sit down on the free massage chair. Weekday would be less busy and noisy. By the way, i went there by bycicle from Nagano city(near zenkoji temple)and it took about an hour.
