5件The location is good located at the downtown of Ueno w convenience stores, pharmacy & many restaurants nearby, 10-min walk to Keisei Ueno station for Skyliner & 5-min walk to JR Okachimachi where u can take Yamanote line to Shinjuku, Tokyo, Ginza and Ikebukuro. I do appreciate the onsen facility, free ramen & friendly staff speaking good english but i won’t recommend this hotel cuz: 1) no cleaning for consecutive night staying, u have to pay ¥1,500 extra/ night for that which is the first time I ever heard of such charge in Japan. I understand bedsheets are not exchanged for environmental friendly reason but seriously not cleaning the trash bin every day when u r not paying extra is not acceptable. 2) there’s only 1 elevator and if u live in lower floor u have to wait for a very long time to check out in the morning. 3) I paid extra for big bed room yet the bed size is just the same as a standard non upgraded room, except the room size is bigger as a matter of fact.
This hotel is comprised of 12 floors from entrance to onsen. It has only 1 elevator. One elevator for guests and staff - people checking in/out, heading up to the onsen, etc. You will regularly wait 5-10 minutes for the elevator. You will have it open up to a linen cart that takes up nearly the entire inside. You will have housekeepers fill it with bags of garbage and have no choice but to ride along with. That one elevator was down for maintenance and also broke down several times during our stay - requiring us to walk up to/down from our 10th floor room on a very narrow, external stairwell. Because of that, we regret staying there and will never return. I am a Dormy Inn fan - staying at them whenever possible: Osaka, Ikebukuro, outside Shinuya. This was the worst Dormy Inn even without the elevator issue. The onsen is the smallest; the rooms are the smallest. We were told we’d only get one cleaning during our 9-day stay; when I called the night before to schedule it, the staff member didn’t put the request in - I believe not understanding my slow, remedial English. I asked 3 days in a row for extra pillows and was turned down. My wife needed her head elevated, but we were stuck with sharing 2 tiny pillows until finally receiving (just) 1 more. We got the breakfast once, which was worth the ¥2000 per person even if a staff member yelled at me for trying to take one last little plate of hijiki she was gathering to throw out. Sorry for not wanting to waste food I kinda paid for…? The location is good. Ueno Okachimachi is lively (if a little seedy in spots). You’re near Ueno Park, several big train stations, and it’s walkable to Akihabara. Tons of food, shopping all around. But the elevator situation is a deal-breaker. Stay at any other Dormy Inn in Tokyo; for example, Dormy Inn Akihabara is 10 minutes away. Just don’t stay here.
I’d rate with 5 stars but all of reception staff ruined experience. Gloomy check-in mood, zero problems solving skills and professionalism, all by unfriendly fake-welcoming people. And with no outcome for a basic issue we met. They were even lying to my face (specifically reception employees on the morning and on the late evening of November 19th). I decided to continue room with issues, just to avoid additional contact with them. On the other hand, the room was nice (uncomfortable bed and not good sleep though). All clean overall. Decent well served breakfast. Amazing onsen experience which helped to forget about receptionists.
Good location: walking distance to Ueno station. Room is spacious: entry foyer, with separate toilet, and partition door to the bed room. The room does not have a separate USB or Type C charging points, so you will need a power plug. The curtain does not block out day light very well in the morning. Level 2 serves ramen from 9.30pm. They do not provide instant coffee in the room, only green tea is available. Complimentary coffee at level 2 is from 3-9pm. Public bath on level 12. Both indoor and outdoor hot bath. There is a sauna in the men’s public bath too.
Really enjoyed this hotel, stayed for 5 nights. Room very quiet despite it being in a busy neighborhood. 5 min walk from train stations. Next to lots of food options, family mart, pharmacy. Service was very helpful and friendly. Would stay again
